Now I might be totally wrong, but anyway:

Sometimes VDMS creates more problems than it fixes. The game won't run at all and says "No graphic driver" or maybe the mouse doesn't work. When you try without VDMS everything works fine, accept, of course, there is no sound. I have found out that this is because VDMS loads in a window, and not in fullscreen. (If there is a fullscreen option that I havn't found I am very sorry that I disturbed you...) Mouse and graphics are routed through the NT structure to enable compatability when running in fullscreen. A thing that cannot be done if the dosbox is in window mode. Here is a simple way to fix this issue:

Create a .bat file in the directory of the game.
It should look like this:

dosdrv
Name-of-game-.exe

Then right-click on the .bat and create a shortcut.
Open the properties of the shortcut and select fullscreen mode.

Run the shortcut and see the game work, with sound and everything!

I have tested this method on different games on different computers and it works. I originally came up with the idea when I was trying to play WarCraft I on win2k. I hope it can help other people too! I see that there are threads about both VESA-drivers and mouse problems in this forum...

There is a fullscreen option. IN THE LAUNCHPAD. You have the launchpad, right? Because, you should. There's no reason not to.

Yes, it’s my fault.

No, more like 60%.

I'd like to see some specific examples of this instead of generalizations.

When you try without VDMS everything works fine, accept, of course, there is no sound.

Which, for most people, they wouldn't consider it to be working fine. Otherwise they wouldn't be trying to run it with VDMSound.

I have found out that this is because VDMS loads in a window, and not in fullscreen.

Some titles need to be in fullscreen mode the moment they are started. Others do not. IIRC, there are very few titles that demand fullscreen mode at startup.

(If there is a fullscreen option that I havn't found I am very sorry that I disturbed you...)

There is, but almost everyone agrees that it was named poorly. It shows up on the Launchpad as "Enable basic VESA support" which makes most people think it's a VESA driver of some type. All it does is cause fullscreen mode to kick in immediately at startup.

By the way, this is not the default partly because most programs don't need it and partly because using it with those programs will induce stuttering audio.

Create a .bat file in the directory of the game.
It should look like this:

I recommend a similar method for games that involve multiple tools to run. Except for these I place the tools into the batch file in the order they are needed:

NOLFB
MOUSE2KV
GAME.EXE

...then run VDMSound on the batch file which creates the VLP shortcut which can then be further customized.

I originally came up with the idea when I was trying to play WarCraft I on win2k.

Warcraft2 is one of the titles that needs immediate full-screen mode.

You might want to make sure your VDMSound is fully updated here.

Good to hear that I am not completly wrong...

The launchpad? The LAUNCHPAD? DO YOU KNOW WHAT DIAL-UP COST? 😉
(starting download...)

Well, my WCI needs fullscreen. On the other hand my WCI crashes after five minutes and only starts on every third try... Must get a proper version.

I saw that somebody asked about VESA drivers for Settlers. Do you know that it normaly doesn't run better in fullscreen?, because you havn't said that to him. Instead you recommended that he installs different operating systems...

Like all other DOS graphic programs, it can only be run in full-screen mode. The only choice is whether or not the prompt is full-screen before the program starts.

Read more carefully. I listed three possible options, none of them particularly easy. That's why I suggested he find a local "expert" he can trust.
