but not at the same moment, sometimes 30 seconds (or even 2-3 minutes) after I starting a new game, other times right at the menu screen, etc.

what can I do

two more things...

1. Map scrolls way too wast in WC2 even though I put it at its lowest in the preferences window, this issue makes the game unplayable for me, I can HARDLY coordinate attacks and defence,, boooooo

2. MIDI music plays slow, any fix for this as well?

anyway, all in all, VDMSound is the best utility on the net

About wcII:
Get Battle.net Edition! It fixes all problems...

The scrollspeed is dependent of your cpu-speed. There are utils to slow it down, but I haven't tested any. You can always use the minimap instead of scrolling...
Try enabling/disabling cd-music. It is supposed to do some good. (don't know where I read that.)

About wcI:

Got the same problem myself. But I thought it was my copy that was corrupt... It is very irritating. What version do you have? I got floppy 1.12. If anybody got a solution to this problem I would be very happy...

dos4gw crashed....

( i know the screen 😀 There is just too little info to little info on it to tell the reason (because of the screen being in not the default resolution)

So it's not that vdmsound crashes. it's dos4gw.
You could also try running the game without vdmsound (and without sound) (I noticed the window is still called vdmsound so..)

if that fails:
You could try running it in the CVS version of dosbox as I run out of options for VDMSound.

Look at their forum for details. Try running it with sound off in dosbox. It crashes after a while with sound at my place.

Hello Nederlander 😁

Lol. it's amazing you can read through that bunch of gibberish text.

I've tried running WC1 without sound + without VDMSound but the game didn't load, just like the other dos4gw based games on Win2k. Now I want to try Dosbox but I can't seem to find it, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the tools and software present on your download page 😁 . I got the frontend thinggy, is that enough? 😖

edit: ok, I've downloaded the binary + installer and the frontend, I think that's enough but don't know how to work things out... I'm not a computer whizkid like you guys are 😁

2nd edit: if it's dog4gw that crashes, can't I get another version of this thing? 😖 if yes, where??

Hi Charlii

I don't have my game on floppy disks anymore which bugs me quite a lot because my version was on 6-7 diskettes with a speech pack (the guys from the mission objectives screen could speak!) which I don't seem to find on any version of Wc1 available on the internet.

Anyway, I'll try slowing down my pc for Wc2 to see if the scroll speed decreases but Wc2 sucks 😜

Nearly every version of DOS/4GW that was released is available in Deep Thought.

Yes, it’s my fault.

from the DOS/4GW Memory Extenders thread?

edit: hmm, I used the most recent one and Wc1 doesn't crash anymore! I managed to play for 5 minutes with no problems!

2nd edit: I forgot to thank you guys for your time to reply! big thanks! I am forever grateful to you all!

Once again VOGONS saves the day!

Thanks for the tip! It works perfectly for me too.

I found out that the problem was mouse-related. If you didn't use the mouse, the game never crashed... strange... Anyway, another version on Dos/4gw fixed it.

Is the speech pack included in the CD-version? I've decided to buy it now that I know it works. That way I will have my own copies of all WarCraft games...

If you're talking about the original Warcraft, yes it has voice, more animation, and (if you get the Mac/PC hybrid) it has pre-recorded music as CD-audio tracks (although I think only the Mac version uses them).
