Wondering if anybody can help me get U7 SI running in MT-32 mode. My set-up is Win XP SP1 with a Creative Live card. VDMSound runs fine with Ultima 7 in MT-32/SB Pro mode, and sounds great. Serpent Isle runs fine when I set it to SB Pro mode for both music and sfx. If I switch it to using MT-32 for music, it crashes to the desktop right after the intro. I've tried reading through the message board looking for some hints on debugging this but couldn't see anything that fixed it. I've disabled my anti-virus software in case that was doing it but it still crashed at the same place. I've tried it with both VDMSound 2.0.4 Patch 2 and 2.1.0 Beta, with the exact same results. I turned on the log, but didn't see anything in there that would help. And yes, I do know about Exult, but I'd love to just have them both up and running using this tool.

Any ideas?

Well, I presume that you are running this with the latest version of U7XP.COM? Why is it that you think the problem is with VDMSound? Seems much more likely to me that it's related to U7XP.com.

In any case, the same thing happens to me. Disabling SoundBlaster audio (while using MT32 for music) lets it continue to run. So, odds are, there's something about mixing the SB audio with the MIDI going wrong.

Choose a Basic SoundBlaster (instead of Pro) to play with MT32. That works fine on mine.
