Some time ago I achieved doing that in Windows XP.
Now under Vista I can't find an equal OS feature to route MIDI output to a different sound card other than the one I make as default.
Is it possible to use a soundcard for wave output and another soundcard for the MIDI output under Vista?

Putzlowitsch's MIDI mapper will allow you to select the MIDI device you want to use.

I copied the file into C:\Windows\System32 but i can't find it in my control panel.
I am using Vista 64

You have to open the "View 32-bit Control Panel Items".

moved it to \Windows\SysWOW64 and now it works, thanks for the suggestions!

[EDIT] but it only lets me chose Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth 😢
