Every time I try to install FEAR (on Win2k) it refuses to install unless I agree to install to the years-old version of DirectX9 included on the CD. I'm obviously reluctant to let it write over my up-to-date installation. Official tech support never got back to me. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Well, you could try install the game and installing latest Direct-X afterwards.

Aren't all the versions of DirectX 9 smart enough not to overwrite newer versions of the DirectX 9 files if you try to install it?

And besides, aren't the only changes that have been made to DirectX 9 over the years just security patches?
