I have an upgrade module in my 386 system that uses this chip. The module is sold as a 75MHz clock tripled upgrade, but I've been using in 66MHz clock doubled mode for some time. A while back I tried to run it at 80MHz (2x40MHz) but it failed miserably. I never bothered to try it out at 100MHz until today.

To my surprise it actually seems to work at 3x33MHz. I have no idea why 3x33MHz works by 2x40MHz doesn't. I guess some of the support chips on the upgrade module just can't handle the extra bus speed.

My module normally ships with a tiny heatsink, but mine was removed by the previous owner and usually just bakes itself inside the surface mount package. I temporarily put a decent sized heatsink on the chip to dissipate the heat, but it still gets quite hot and crashes after 15 minutes or so.

Does anyone here have experience with the Alaris Blue Lightning 100MHz motherboard? I'm curious to know what kind of cooling this chip requires at that speed.
