Well, a little rant. I suppose most of you know what Exult is. For the others: Exult is a game engine that runs the data files of the Origin games Ultima 7 - The Black Gate and Serpent Isle (+ Add-Ons). Exult Homepage
When you read through the page you should get an idea what it is about...
Now today we got this email to our mailing list:

Hi. I just recently got a new computer, a Pentium 4 PC, that runs on Windows 98. I've installed the Ultima Collection CD, which contains ALL of the Ultima games on it, except Ultima 9 and any of the Ultima Onlines. I tried running Ultima 7, getting my computer rebooted to the DOS screen, with the "To Play Ultima 7 type 'U7'" words appearing on the screen. I entered the corrct path to the U7.exe file on the my hard drive, then got, "Run ULTIMA 7 to play Ultima 7" on a new DOS screen. I entered the path to the ULTIMA7 file, but then got to another DOS screen where it stated there was an error when running the program. It happens this way every time I try. What do I do? And how can I get sounds to play? Is there something on your site that can help ALL these problems?

You see what I mean with the subject of this post?
😀

Yes. There are boatloads of people with no DOS experience trying to run DOS programs that need serious tweaking, but they want an easy-to-run solutions rather than apply known solutions that require real effort on the part of the user.

A DOS guide would be helpful, but only for those willing to actually use it.
