Hiya!!!

In the grounds of testing my long wanted Disney Sound Source (thanks Salient!!!) I have tried to play Dangerous Dave II and III , and Keen Dreams... Sound source in Dave games is awesome (and you don't have to load the greedy sb's tsr for sfx too) but scrolling is way to jerky... As with Commander Keen Dreams... Also Realms of Chaos suffers
All of them run super smooth on my 486slc2/Cirus5424_ISA pc, but on my test K62/400+Voodoo3 scrolling is jerky.
I have tried my registered moslo with 386/486/p1 settings but games just crap out (another "wise" purchase of mine, it never actually helped me once in games... 🙄 ) ... I have tried the voodoo "vesafix" program but did nothing...
Any thoughts on the matter? Better written games play super smooth (jazz jackrabbit comes in mind, and turricanII) but is there a workaround for those Apogee classics?
Any help is highly appreciated as always 😊

Try the following things:

  • Slow down the K6-2 by hardware (lower FSB/multiplier, disable caches)
  • Install an ISA VGA card

BTW, VESAFix doesn't achieve anything, because those games don't care about VESA.

yeah, I had the suspicion that vesafix was useless in this situation, but tested anyways 😀
Will try lowering speeds, but I am concerned that the voodoo3 behaves like some other vga chips that cannot produce smooth scrolling in these games (like tseng ones for example)

Doesn't Keen have an SVGA compatibility fix option in its menu?

It fixes scrolling issues on some SVGA cards.

It's just a prblem with some videocards not being 100% vga compatible in when they have to cache certain values that are used to render the next frame. That way certain values like pixel panning and start addresss aren't in sync and you get horizontal jittering. Not much you can do about it besides getting a different videocard.

Maybe the /COMP parameter fixes it.
