I have used this solution (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=618914) to run games using "General Midi" under Linux, that always worked except with Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 (it used to work with Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04).

There is sound, but only in stereo (I have 7.1 channels). The other applications run perfectly in 7.1 (movies, mp3, system sounds, etc).

What can I do to enable 7.1 sound with Dosbox games (using General Midi)?

My specs:

System: Ubuntu Karmic 9.10
ALSA version: 1.0.22
Dosbox version: 0.73
Sound card: Sound Blaster X-Fi (supported in ALSA 1.0.22)

AFAIK most dos games don't support surround sound.

Do you mean you want the stereo sounds to be played out of all your speakers but not upmixed to surround sound? like all the left sounds come out of both left speakers all the right sounds out of the right speakers.
