The music starts off fine, but after five minutes or so, the background music will get screwed up (very static-y) until i enter another screen. I thought this might be a problem with my CD so i copied it all to a directory on my harddrive and mounted that. But still, the music screws up after a few minutes of play. It's very random, sometimes i won't get it for 20 minutes of play, sometimes i'll get it within 2 minutes of playing. i've seen this happen in pretty much any location (even the credits), so it's not isolated to a certain part of the game

my dosbox 0.74 settings are at default, except for
cycles=20000 --- i've tried everything from 5000 to 50000 to "max". none helps
memsize=64 -- tried 16 and 32. still have problems

can any of you play larry 7 on Dosbox with no music problems AT ALL?

(btw, i know of squirtthecat's patch which is really helpful, but I would like to find a solution to THIS problem because i like playing games using dosbox)

I just gave the dosbox installer a try, but I got static-y sound on the introduction scene with shamarra... First time i got sound problems so quick into the game..

I think i'm going to give an earlier version of dosbox a try.

where have you got dosbox from?
what is your Operating System?
what are your PC specifications?

do other games work properly?

post content of "DOSBox Status Window" (in Windows: right click on its title bar -> edit)
enclose your dosbox's config file

post your mount lines and what is written under every mount line
post what is written after you type "mount"

Every game I've tried on Dosbox works BEAUTIFULLY: such as betrayal at krondor CD, a dozen scumm games, all sierra games BUT larry7, duke nukem 3d (using highest vesa settings), Heroes of might magic 2 CD, tie fighter CDrom with high settings, jagged alliance, lands of lore, master of orion 1 & 2, master of magic, Simcity2000, star control 2, syndicate plus, ultima 7/8, X-COM 1/2, broken sword. Every single one of them work perfectly, not even a single hiccup

I use the same configuration for all of them, but i may change the cycles depending on the game, such as 30000 for broken sword to achieve smooth animations. max for duke nukem 3d, 10000 for others that would otherwise get sound distortions, and etc. I think i've tried almost everything there is to try over the course of 2 months (off and on of course) --- regarding larry7

DOSBox version 0.74

CONFIG:Loading primary settings from config file C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Local\DO
SBox\dosbox-0.74.conf
Maximum memory size is 63 MB ((( i've tried with 16 and 32 memsize as well)))
Memory sizes above 31 MB are NOT recommended.
Stick with the default values unless you are absolutely certain.

I don't have any mount lines in my autoexec part of the config. I type it up manually every single time.

mount c c:\games
"Drive C is mounted as local directory c:\games\"

and if there's a cd
mount d d:\ -t cdrom
"MSCDEX installed. Drive D is mounted as CDRom d:\"

once, i even made an ISO of larry7 and mounted it with
imgmount d c:\larry7.iso -t cdrom

also tried mounting it with a virtual drive which looked like
mount d f:\ -t cdrom

once i copied the whole cd onto c:\larry7 then i would mount that as
mount d c:\larry7 -t cdrom

and lastly i tried the dosbox installer for larry7 that copies all the files into the appropriate folder. i actually got my fastest sound degradation through that method

although there may be many aspects of dosbox that i don't know, i don't consider myself a novice with this program.

please help me if you can. if i can just get some confirmation of whether or not others can play (for 20 minutes at least) without music distortion then that would be very helpful

If it is using the main dosbox.conf then you did not correctly install the game with the new installer. That installer would have created a conf file in the game's folder with the correct mountings.

Yes I've tried memsize=16 (also 32) as I mentioned in my previous post.

Also , I installed the larry7 installer correctly I'm sure. Anyway, here's a copy of the Larry7 installer conf file

[sdl]
output= overlay
fullresolution= 0x0
windowresolution= 800x600
autolock= false

[dosbox]
machine= svga_s3
captures= "C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Local\DOSBox\capture"
memsize=64

[render]
aspect= true
scaler= normal3x

[cpu]
core= dynamic
cputype= auto
cycles= max

[autoexec]
cls
mount c "C:\Sierra\LSL7"
c:
cd \
LSL7.BAT
exit

anyway thanks for the help, guys. i'm just going to assume that the game has sound issues with dosbox, and im gonna move on to another game. been a while since i played through jagged alliance.
