Grabbed a couple more cheapie 486 boards with CPU and RAM
1. DX2-66, 4 unknown size memory sticks, 7 slots, 1 8-bit, 3 16 bit and 3 VLB
2. Am5x86-133, 20mb RAM, 8 slots, 5-16-bit, 3-VLB
$52.10 shipped from two different sellers.
Late addition to the list. Scrounged up another Am5x86-133, this one the ADZ stepping that overclocks so well. The other one is ADW. It's not guaranteed to work (a few slightly bent pins, no reason to believe the core is bad) but it was less than $10 so I decided to take a chance.
We have a depony nearby. They have a whole container for electronic trash. Whenever I go there, I am drooling over all those 486, P1 and k6-2 machines that get kicked out of their garages. I can't see why you pay such sums for what is basically trash. My own 486 was supposed to go there too. I saved it, before it took the plunge.

Have you seen what non-OEM 486 motherboards are going for these days? Try $200-$500 on ebay. $52 for two of them with RAM and CPU is getting off light. The vintage gamers have been driving the prices sky high on these things.
Are you thinking of the guy who for every auction has a picture of some runner's hands and feet with corporate logos pasted over it?
Some pretty impressive prices there, but someone has to be buying it.

No, not him. I know he probably doesn't sell much at his prices. He was still selling Macintosh Quadras for close to $2000 up until a year or two ago. He's also a jerk. I once asked him for a photo of something and he gave me a bunch of attitude basically telling me to buy it or don't. I chose don't. I'm talking about practically everyone else. If you can find a board for $50 you'll be lucky and it probably won't have VL Bus slots on it. Just do a search for 486 motherboard and look at the Buy IT Nows. It's ridiculous the prices they are charging. The worst thing is, once one person puts a high price on something, everyone else does too and that becomes the established price for such things.

Oh, you look at those "buy it now" prices. Those prices often seem to be totally unrealistic. If I want a P2-450 and look at the "buy it now prices", it would sometimes cost as much as a new Core2Duo. I got my two P2-450 for a Euro each. I doubt that many of these high priced items actually get sold. Its a premium for people without patience.
