oh right! seems to sound better with adlib than with GM. Maybe I'm biased, I played U7 with an adlib back in the day on my 386 😀
I've always wanted to play U8 but never got a chance.

GM music in U8 is better.
Also, there are patches for GUS and AWE32 wawetable synthesis.
