Ogg files?

I mean, Youtube for music playback is such a waste of bandwidth due to poor bitrate and unneccessary video data.

On the topic of Wing Commander music, we need to figure out some way to play Super Wing Commander on PC. That version is pretty amazing on 3DO but the 3DO controller sucks terribly and the load times too. I can't believe it was only otherwise available on Mac.

For those who don't know, SWC is a gloriously enhanced version of WC1.

There is also "Wing Commander: The Kilrathi Saga"! Never played this version, but will check it out one day that's for sure...

What machine would be suited? A Pentium? W95 or W98?

I saw this YouTube video of the Sega CD version. Full with speech and everything 😁

There is also a version for the Amiga CD32, but apparently it's very slow. I know nothing about the Amiga though...

There is also a version for the SNES! Amazing...

IMO Wing Commander without an analogue joystick is only half the fun (despite me playing with a mouse for my videos 🤣)

Super Wing Commander is superior to all other versions. The cutscenes and backdrops are all redone in graphics that are more like Privateer (or even Crusader). The space combat graphics are improved as well.

I think I'm gonna setup my Basilisk and see if I can find the Mac version of the game. My guess is the Mac version is 640x480.

It's indeed a very interesting version.

Not sure about superior though. It's like having a son and then running into an improved version from a parallel universe 🤣 It does have that awesome "cheese factor" that soo many FMV games of that era had!

There's no FMV. It's all hand drawn or 3D rendered. 😉 Privateer-like.

The gameplay is essentially unchanged but every bit of art is improved. And there are new cutscenes obviously.

I know 😀 That's why I said it had that cheese factor like FMV games...

I don't know it just doesn't do it for me. I find the Sega CD version more interesting as it's closer to the original while adding speech.

It's the old debate of few details + imagination vs. more details + less need for imagination.

Still the DOS VGA version will remain my favorite. I grew up with that game and I have great memories. I finished it on a 286 with EGA and PC speaker 🤣

I'm an "all things Origin & sci-fi" kind of guy. Gimme all of it.
