I just removed an S478 processor heatsink. It has never been removed since it was purchased new back in 2002.

To my surprise, the heatsink popped out along with the processor sticked below that. I tried to remove the processor from the heatsink and it won't be removed. (The heatsink has a "mat" with rubber-like thermal paste on it, and the processor is "glued" by the rubber-like thermal paste).

Is there any way to separate the processor and the heatsink?

At the moment I can't put the processor back since I had to pull up the ZIF lever but with the big height of the CPU+heatsink module it is impossible to pull up the ZIF, put the processor then lock it back.

It is really hard.
I tried to push the IHS part which is sticked to the heatsink rubber-like gel with an expired credit card, but no luck.

This has happened to me twice, I removed the CPU carefully with a flat blade screwdriver using "mild" force

Finally after heating it (as with the Mau1wurf1977 instruction) the rubber-like substance became a little bit softer, and pushing it with a screwdriver (as with Amigaz's instruction), it is finally released! It does take a little bit force though.

Thank you for all your help!
