Gday everyone, usual thing i used to know my way around dos but has been so so so long since i used it i have forgotten how. I'm trying to get a old game Strike Commander to work on my new laptop and have been able to istall dos box and get it to run but when i try to install the game it comes up with a problem.
😢
It tells me
"Not enough dos memory detected"
586K are needed to play SC.
Only 425K was found. Please alter your
setup so that you have enough DOS memory
to play Strike Commander.
😢
I think i remember having to alter either my config.com or autoexec.bat files but i cant remember how to alter these. Can someone please help me as i used to really love this game and am wanting to relive the glory of it.

Cheers Tom 😕

I have been reading the readme, but am not understanding much of it. maybe im reading it wrong but the loadfix section in the readme seems only to deal with reducing the amount of memory not increasing it. And i cant seem to work out how to open/edit the config file either. It has been about 10 years since i have tried anything like this so i guess i should be considered a newbie cause i have forgotten everything 🙁

I just found a helpful hint in the games readme file with the setup of the config file, can someone please tell me how i can access the config.com file through Dos box to make changes to it, ive tried the help/ all menu in dosbox and i have been reading the readme file with dosbox but nothing seems to be working there for me ( sections 3.usage, 4. internal programs, 11. the config file.)

[Moved to DOSBox Games/Apps. Section]

You need to run a loadfix command before invoking the game. And yes, you need to thoroughly read the readme.

The point is that DOSBox basically makes so much memory available that some programs misinterpret it as not having enough memory. That's what loadfix remedies.
