I am having an extremely frustrating time to say the least finding drivers for this OEM Dell SB Live! 5.1 card, ct4780.
I've searched on driverguide which points to filenames that no longer exist and spam. 😠
I've also downloaded the SB driver pack that an user posted on these forums and it is not in that archive.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular card?

btw the files I'm looking for are as follows
ct4780win9x.zip
sb_live_win9xdrv.exe
eng_1024.zip

Found some isos of the live install CDs, hopefully this will work

Creative Labs Sound Blaster ISA Cards' Drivers Collection (Old Thread)

-Live! ISO did not work

Guess it's time to find a new sound card? 😠

The card could be faulty if the Live! CD didn't work.

Try Ubuntu or something like that...

Maybe irrelevant to you, but the few times I tried a SB Live! with ME, ME used it's standard drivers. Can't remember what exact model I used though.

The Dell support site has the drivers for it... I don't know if a direct link will work, since their site is a bit finicky, but you can also get to it by looking under the downloads for a Dimension 8100.

Honestly, though, I don't know if it's worth the trouble of dealing with those Dell cards... they're a bit weird at best, and some of 'em aren't even 'real' SB Live cards. Considering the usual going rate for the SB Lives, it may be worthwhile just to replace the thing... you can get an SB0060 or CT4760 pretty easily off eBay.

Strike 18790258083 for Dell!
-_-

Though having to toss an otherwise functioning soundcard would be a waste 🙁

The KX project supports the CT4780 - but the KX project doesn't support Win98SE anymore, or at least not officially.

A quick search suggests you might be able to find an older version of the KX drivers, or even install the latest ones manually.

Thanks all, I've tried the KX drivers before to avail, but I will try again with hopefully better results.

I agree, Dell OEM cards are usually garbage 😦

I will try the Drivers on the Dell site and see it that works

Thanks

If this doesn't work, I'll probably end up picking up a Turtle Beach card

That's the exact same card that I have, love it and it works great! 😀 Unfortunately, I can't help ya with the W98 drivers, and when I bought mine (a used Dell pull) it was installed directly into a WXP box.

FWIW, if you (or anyone else) installs one in an XP box, here are direct links to CL's drivers, driver updates, manuals, and other such stuff (note that the "(# - " is the order in which to install them for best results):

Why are you bumping a four-year-old thread about a different card?

Why not try it and find out?

Unless you have a specific need for soundfonts, you can very easily do without them.

How does the "WaveEffects" work?
I thought they are SoftwareBased General-Midi Fonts. If I do not install any kind of additional software in Win98SE
I will hear nothing?

Like I said, why don't you try it and find out?

Perhaps you should start a new thread for your questions.
