hi! I'm asking myself if I could use the free PCI slot (from the shared ISA/PCI position) for an UDMA PCI controller for my retro 486 pc? because UDMA cards don't need a slot bracket and there is still little space between the network card and the sound blaster.

I was thinking of this card, because the IDE ports are mounted on the side:

Theoretically it should work as long as you prevent the card from touching the AWE64 underneath and watch out for heat problems.

I'm not so sure about that particular IDE controller though, as it is a PCI v2.2 card, the board doesn't support that.

I thought the only difference between PCI 2.1 and 2.2 is the voltage change to 3.3V? since the card has the notch on the right end it is supposed to be a 5V card which should work well in a PCI 2.1 system?

but I'm sure there are also PCI 2.1 udma controller cards to find 😀
