F8 key on mac?

Ive been using dosbox for a while now to play some old games from my youth. Most of the games are sierra games and i usually never had a problem. Lately i've been playing the space quest games and i seem to hit a part where i need to use the function keys. How can i use these on a mac?

When the system has assigned the key to some other function Dosbox can't use it. So make sure that in the Keyboard settings of OS X nothing got this key assigned.
Also make sure that OS X is set to use the F-keys and not the special functions or use Fn+F8.

I went into system preferences.. under keyboard preferences i checked " use keys as standard function keys" That allowed me to use the f8 button. Thanks!
