Hi,

I hope this is the right place.

On Windows 98, I usually play Operation: Inner Space in 16-bit colour. In some sequences (thankfully not including the main game), I don't see the ship. This also happens in the factory. In 256 colour mode, everything works fine. I would run the game in 256 colours, but it's hassle to change to and from every time. This happens on both a Matrox Millennium G200 AGP and a Matrox Mystique 220.

Also, if I leave the first sequence running for more than a few moments, the colours will be wrong in the main game. And on the Millennium G200 AGP, I had some cursor problems in Microsoft Windows and in Heroes of Might and Magic which I don't get on the Mystique 220. I'm was wondering if there is some issue with Matrox cards or with Windows 98.

Thanks

It's probably the Matrox drivers and their handling of DIB functions

I don't know what's going on there, but if that's a 256 color game, it's better to play it at 256 color mode. MultiRes allows to quickly change desktop resolution and color depth: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/multires.shtm

The wrong colors is a typical palette change issue. See if you can fix it by not using a desktop wallpaper.

IIRC, there is an option in MGA PowerDesk to enable/disable hardware cursor that may help the cursor problem.

Not all Matrox drivers it seems. I just tried it in Windows 3.1 using the MGA Powerdesk 16-bit driver and it seems to work okay there. Is there no driver like that for Windows 98?

I'm already not using a desktop wallpaper.

I don't recall the cursor setting making any difference. I may have to try that again sometime.

Your link gave me the idea of using QuickRes (I wanted to try that before downloading anything). For now it seems to work like a charm 😀(though I haven't tested it thoroughly). I still don't know why it doesn't work in 16-bit mode where it does in Windows 3.1. I may have to try different drivers.

Thanks for the help
