I've been reading about a lot of problems with early GeForce cards and the AMD Irongate chipset and wondered if anyone experienced these problems and how they solved them.

750's AGP is borked. 2x is toast but even in 1x it is flakey with everything except Voodoo cards. With my ASUS K7M, I had problems with TNT2, Geforce 256 and 3, Rage 128, Radeon 7500 and 8500. It's like Super 7 fun, basically. It might work seemingly well but eventually it will freeze, crash or have strange artifacts or something.
My fav weirdness was the 7500 only rendering guns and eyeballs of the guys in the 3dmark01 lobby scene. Lol. There appeared to be a pile of corrupt geometry by their feet too. The room itself was normal. Bizarro.
Video drivers usually force 1x because 2x simply is very unstable.

I have a MSI K7 PRO with an Athlon 600 around here.
I'll do some testing when i have time and try to reproduce those errors.
If you want to. But there aren't exactly errors most of the time. It's more that the cards are not entirely stable on the AGP bus and might freeze or crash. But yes sometimes I saw visual problems.
From what I've read, the AMD 751/756 chipset was an engineering test platform. It wasn't intended for production boards and it isn't a fully debugged, polished design. There are also a few revisions of it with differing features like Super Bypass. My board has Super Bypass so it must have a later revision. The 756 southbridge was typically avoided entirely and a VIA 686A used in its place.
Clearly if AMD wanted to sell Athlons in 1999 they needed a chipset to do it and no other company had one ready yet so 750 hit the streets regardless of being slow and buggy.
Mine has AMD 756 (Viper) southbridge. It also features super bipass and the northbridge revision is supposed to be the latest.
I'll give it a try and do a comparison with my P2B with the P3 600 coppermine and see how it goes. I also have a 950 Athlon but nothing comparable on Intel side...
