For those that don't know I have a 386/40 system that I've put WAY too much money into to make it a "perfect" dos gaming system. Recently I've been toying with adding a 9gb 10k rpm scsi hard drive. After every conceivable hurdle was cleared I finally got all the hardware to co-operate. The hard disk was saturating the isa bus, and had the scsi advantage of lower cpu overhead (or so i've been told)
Anyway, I got a fresh install of dos 6.22 on it and was just starting to copy over soundblaster drivers. During this time I got tired of tripping over the cover. so I placed it on the computer. Its a standard tower u-shaped piece of metal and there is little to go wrong. NOPE! soon as I got the cover on it, the screen goes black and everything powers down as if I hit the power switch. "oops! I snagged a wire!" I thought, taking the cover back off. Nope. I cycle the power, and the screen comes back to life, but this time the sound of a high-speed scsi drive could not be heard. "RUT RO!" I said as I checked the power connector. Untouched. In fact it is neigh impossible for the cover to come in contact with the hard drive. Long story short, I pull the hard drive out and put power to it from a different power supply. No dice. No visible damage. it finally dawns on me, I've killed it. The following link accurately describes what happened next:

So yea. If there were any Jedi in the area, you might have felt that. I honestly did cuss a storm that left me hoarse. Mostly because I had a sealed copy of space quest V that I was going to spend a weekend playing. *sigh*
Thanks for listening!
