obviously we know where this going. sometimes when i install drivers it asks for extra files after reboot some files or disk witch i'm not even sure exist.

any ways it's asking me for 8255xdel.exe if i don't give it the files it will screw up the boot for ever and it will prompt you about missing files forever.

also this is 98se.

You could always try directing it to find the missing file in C:\Windows\System\Drivers\, or there may be a C:\Intel\ or C:\Program Files\Intel\ directory that may have the driver files leftover from the original installaiton. Maybe even try C:\Windows\Temp\ if the Temp files haven't been deleted yet since the install. If that doesn't work you might have to rerun the driver installer.

it seems the toshiba driver installers do the initial setup extracting the files somewhere and you reboot it looks for those files but, they are no where to be found because it probably drops them in some temp folder.

Ouch. Stupid Toshiba. That file name (8255xdel.exe) sounds like it's from an Intel Device, what's it for, LAN? Could try locating a standalone installer from the Intel website.

It is and I did. perhaps i should should zip it up and post link for any one who stumbles across this via google? it's for an intel lan/software modem card.

it did fail to run the card properly the first time so i uninstalled via add/remove progs. it rebooted and asked me for some of the same windows files again and appears to work but, takes longer to boot now (has blinking "_")

last time it was my wlan card that made it take long to boot (previous install in the before time) with the blinking "_".

when it does take a while to boot you can tell it's loading driver/peripherals i always see my add in cards (pcmia) light up just before it loads the desktop.

Have you tried making it a static IP? Might cut some boot time off the system.
