I'm restoring the Toshiba 286 portable system I mentioned in the "Bought this!" thread. I've ordered a SCSI card so that I can replace the HDD, but in the meantime I thought I'd add sound.

Here's how it went:

I used a Vibra16S for the real OPL3, but also because it's a relatively short cart, with few tall components towards the back of the card. The 8-bit slot of this Toshiba is only meant to accommodate a "half length" card, due to the presence of the system's motherboard. You can see what I mean in the video.

Why didn't I just use the 16-bit slot? That's where the SCSI card is going!

You'll have to forgive the fluffing around towards the end, it was hard to hold the phone and the headphones together with one hand. 🤣

Nice! If only the monitor was in a better condition.

That's pretty cool. Really weird that the SB16's working in an 8bit slot like that - I wasn't aware they could work that way. Did you try anything else on it that might use more than juts FM Sound? I'm wondering if the more advanced SB16 features other than FM Sound (Adlib) work on it while connected to an 8bt slot.
