In my quest for a black serial mouse I came across this Key Tronic device which has uses two wheels to register movements instead of a single ball used in most mice.

Anyone had any experience with this type of mouse and are they any better than a standard ball mouse?

I've just ordered one so wont be able to test it for a couple of weeks, the good news is they are brand new only selling for $7US(Or best offer!)plus postage and amazingly realistic postage price to Australia($11US).

Yes when I was at school, we used those in the computer lab (presumably so kids couldn't steal the ball)

I wasn't a fan of them. Movement wasn't as smooth/fluid as regular ball mice and the wheels can still get gunked up (not as frequently as ball mice though); over time the surface of the wheels would get slick as well and wouldn't roll on the desk properly. Often you'd move the mouse and it would go either vertical or horizontal as one of the wheels wasn't mating with the desk surface properly.

If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.
