First, i want to thanks the author of this great program 😀 Well, currently i have a problem with thre game Dune (both versions: disk and cd-rom) from Cryo/Virgin.

Everything is ok when i enter the game, music and sound perfect. The digitised voices also are emulated perfectly. The problem arises when i leave the palace and enter the ornythopter to fly. After i select the destination, the game exits and the following error appears:

"VDMS Launchad - Shortcut to
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:8fff IP:fdf2 OP:c4 f4 cd aa cd Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

The Only options available are close and ignore (wee). I've tested the game only with music and runs fine, and no errors when i take the orny. So i supose it must be a sound related to this moment. Also, as i already said, i've tested with 2 different versions of the game, consequently this is no game error.

My specs:
VDMSound.2.0.4.update1

AMD 1.2 Thunderbird
256 MB RAM
40 GB HD
Geforce 2 MX 200 64 MB
Windows XP Pro build 2600
VIA AC 97 Audio

Finally sorry, my english sucks, i know. Thanks in advance.

Lisbon

The computer is too fast.
Try on a slower computer or try using MOSLO. I have the same CPU configuration as you do (1.2GHz T-Bird) and the exact same floppy-version of Dune worked flawlessly on 120MHz (my old computer) but crashes on 1.2GHz.

Also try using DosBox if desperate: http://dosbox.cjb.net/

Thx for the reply, yes, dosbox was also on my mind and i test it. There was problems seting up the sound, so i decided to edit dune.bat until reaching success. i leave the content of the file to run with doxbox:

@echo off
C:
DNCDPRG AMR ADL SDB2225 EMS 386 SAF WRIC:\DUNECD\

As you can see, soundblaster for sound and adlib for music. They're configured to dobxbox settings. No problems with speed, sound, music. Btw, remember to delete the command REM from the dune.bat because doxbox doens't recognize this command.

cya 😉

*yawn!*

I've just spend around 4 hours in one go completing the game.

Yup! The DOS floppy version works fine under DOSBox.

A few sound glitches but nothing too bad.

DOSBox does have quite an interesting interpretation of the HERAD Adlib system though 😉.

Hopefully M$ will get a clue and stick such an emulator in their next home OS...but I doubt it. Even if they did they'd probably sue Harekiet for using the word "DOS" in his program name and rip off his prog. 😉

No, they'll probably just steal DOSBox and sue Harekiet for releasing 'their' code.

Aaanyway, closing thread: RESOLVED.

I need to get a 'problems resolved' counter thing. 😜

Yes, it’s my fault.
