I've bought Magic Carpet from gog.com and thought I'd try getting it to run in a dosbox under Linux, more specifically openSUSE 12.2. While the game itself runs, sound is choppy and only keyboard works as it should. Mouse buttons work but as soon as you move the mouse the screen starts spinning and won't stop until you die.

How can I possibly get this to work as it does under windows?

The obvious question is, are you using the latest version of DOSBox?

I'm also wondering if your video card drivers are up to date.

openSUSE like RedHat uses dosbox-0.74, i.e. the latest released version.

And what please do sound and mouse support have to do with the graphics driver? Graphics work perfectly OK besides the fact that I can't switch to fullscreen but that might be caused by SDL not coping with my unusual setup as I have my desktop spread over three monitors, two hooked to a Nvidia GTX 480 and one hooked to an 7600 GT.

Linux is full of delightfully mysterious surprises. 😅

SDL not coping could cause any number of problems, I would think. Unless someone has a better idea, then as a troubleshooting measure, why not try running DOSBox with just one monitor and one active graphics card?
