Playing a bit of Tyrian today and got the Christmas mode, with its Christmas graphics.
This got me wondering what other games do something special for Christmas?

Only other one I know of is Rise of the Triad which played Christmas music
Anyone know any others?

Online RPG's often have special Christmas events, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean?

Whats missing in your collections?

I still remember when The Gecko and I discovered the Christmas mode in Tyrian back in the late 90's. Neither of us had played the game in months and we were talking on the phone and one of us (I think him) decided to just load the game up out of boredom and lo and behold:

******************
Christmas has been detected.
Activate Christmas? (Y/N)
******************

Epicness! :D

Also, NiGHTS into Dreams on the Saturn has some Christmas related easter eggs if memory serves, though I've never tried to trigger them since I found out about them after the backup battery died for the first time and all my save data was lost. (I mean seriously, 2 years save battery life? My Dragon Warrior II cart for the NES, which I've had for over two DECADES, still holds its data!)

Crusader: No Regret plays Xmas music (kinda technofied, as you might expect) when starting a new game on 12/25. You can find the tracker file if you look for it.

Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle on the Mac display a few Xmas decorations in the castle when starting a new game on 12/25. The DOS version of Dark Castle also has the feature.

Cave Story+ is the most modern example I can think of (it also celebrates Halloween). Killing Floor also has limited time christmas events.

And there's, of course, Team Fortess 2, though TFC also had it to a lesser extent.

In the less automatic sense, Jetpack also had a christmas graphics set, and there are special Holiday Hare shareware episodes of Jazz Jackrabbit.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows had some famous holiday easter eggs.

The Christmas edition was a separate thing, I think.

Look at the menu screen of Jazz Jackrabbit 1 too...

Not an easter egg (more like a whole separate release) but Skyroads had a 'Xmas Special' version, with backdrops of Santa at his asteroid base parking a space-sleigh...

Yeah, but I think there's still something in the regular game. I could be mistaken.

I really wish there was some way to run Johnny Castaway as a screensaver on a modern PC. I'd love to have it running in the office when I'm not around 😀
