VOGONS

Hi all,

before you say it, yes I did read all topics that could possibly solve my problem. 😀 I have tried out everything I found on Vogons but I still cannot find a solution.

The problem that I have is that I cannot get the music to work on Rayman 1 using DOSbox. I am using the latest DOSbox version and running it with Mac OS x Mountain Lion. To run the game, I am using a dmg of my old (original) Rayman CD.

This is what I have tried so far

1) As per your 60 seconds guide to getting your game to run in DOSBox, I have tried mounting C and D exactly as it says on the guide;

2) As per this topic Rayman 1 no music in DosBox, I have created C like above and then D as above, but adding -ioctl_dx at the end;

3) Created a bin file out of my dmg using dmgextractor and then tried the imgmount.

With all the above the game does work and the sounds play, but I can't hear the music.

Please help me, I really don't know what to try anymore..!

Thanks for your help,
M

Hi, thanks for your help 😀

Unfortunately, I have tried creating another copy but it won't work. I have even tried using the original CD directly, from a laptop that has a cd drive (my MB pro doesn't) but the music is just not there.

Does it have something to do with the CD? I don't seem to spot any audio tracks in its content, although I might be looking for the wrong file extension.

All I see in my cd is a bunch of .exe files, .inf files, .bat, .doc, .ico, 386, .pcx, /obf, .spr, .vig, .dsp, .dat, .lng, .wld and in a folder called music i have .lev files.

Do these files ring a bell? 😀 I have no clue!

Really messy!!

How did you try to make the image? Because on OS X there is no good way to mount a game CD with audio tracks. Best way to do it, is unfortunately through Windows and with Alcohol 120%...

BUT I'm not even sure if music plays through audio tracks 😉
Did you search here for previous discussions on Rayman?

Check the cd for CDA tracks. There are, unfortunately, Rayman version w/o CDA. Dunno how to do this on Apple... On PC - use cdinfo, any cd grabber or even windows media player.
Music in Rayman (at least PC version) is CDA only.

Hey thanks guys,

No CDA tracks within the content of the CD / its dmg copy. The problem might very well be that I have done everything with my mac. I have created a dmg out of the cd using my old macbook and toast, which I have then moved to my new laptop.

I am running a virtual version of windows XP on my mac though, so I can try and do everything from there.

Are you able to tell me what the steps to do exactly to get it to run on windows?

Shall I just copy the CD with Alcohol 120% and then run it, mounting first C and D? I don't get the - use cdinfo thing, is it to be added after -t cdrom when mounting D?

I know, lots of questions - I suppose the word Newbie is really right for me 😀

Let the VM grab the CD and then make a bin/cue image with Alcohol (the trial version works all right). Later use imgmount instead of mount in dosbox to mount the image (read the readme).

Thanks Dominus!!

I will try in a couple of hours and see if it works. Just to make sure, if I create a cue / bin file I should also then be able to easily use that file on mac os x using imgmount right?

Yes, bin/cue images and imgmount are the way to go on OSX for games with audiotracks.
When you have the bin/cue file pair, open the cue file in text edit to make sure that it doesn't have a Windows path written for the bin file and place them in the same folder.

mount c somefolder
imgmount d path-to/rayman.cue
D:

Hi,

so I managed to create a bin/cue file using Alcohol and it obviously includes music tracks now (because it is now around 600MB against 90MB of my dmg). So all smooth. The problem is that now when I try to mount it on DOSbox with imgmount I get the following message "file is either no iso / cue image or contains errors". Now what did I do wrong? I am going crazy, I wanna play SO bad 😀

Another random fact is that my mac started to read the Rayman CD as two separate CD's, one which contains the files that I mention in one of my previous posts, and one which contains 20 something AIFF audio tracks.

In case I cannot sort out the whole bin / cue thing, which I hope I can, is there any way I can sort of "merge" the dmg with the game content and the tracks?

If I am really really desperate and don't find a solution I will end up playing the game and put the tracks on my iPod 😁

Thanks for all the help you can give!!

Did you check the cue file for the path to the bin file? The cue file is just a text file which you can edit. It should only say something like "RAYMAN1.BIN" and not c:/somepath/rayman.bin.
Another angle would be that you write us where EXACTLY the cue and bin file are AND your EXACT mounting commands.

Alcohol gave out two files, one is called rayman.bin (around 600MB) and the other is called rayman.cue (a few KB).

I mount C this way:

mount c "/users/mirthilla/rayman" and all goes well, because I have a folder called Rayman in users/mirthilla

Then I mount d this way:

mount d "/users/mirthilla/bincue/rayman.cue" -t iso

(the folder with rayman.bin and rayman.cue, which is called bincue, is placed in users/mirthilla)

In other words, I have rayman.bin and rayman.cue in the same folder. What I am doing wrong?

You have to use
imgmount
Instead of mount when you want to mount an image. If you did this and just miswrote it, again, please check the contents of the cue file with a texteditor.

Yep, just miswrote.

This is the content of my cue file, I get the feeling it is very wrong.

FILE "RAYMAN.BIN" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00

Now, I saw on this post rayman sound problems that this guy posted the content of his cue file, obviously I don't suppose I can just copy and paste it instead of the content of my one can I? 😁

You could if the audio tracks were included in your image, but they may not be. Total file size of the BIN is a better indicator of such, it should be ~667MB big. If your image is significantly smaller than it likely omits the audio tracks and there will be little you can do but re-rip the CD. If your image is close in size to that, then it likely does include the CD audio and your ripping software just mucked up generating the CUE file. In which case modifying the CUE may help.

Here's my CUE for the game, which seems to match the other poster you referenced:

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately my cue file is 904 bytes, so there is definitely something wrong with it! I'll try and rip the CD again with alcohol, although it takes hours to do that when virtualizing windows from an old macbook 😒

Just to ask one of my previous questions again, I guess with the hope of turning this around in a rather sneaky way, is there any way of "merging" the loose audio tracks with the content of my dmg? In other words, I have the dmg with rayman (and it's working, except it's only sounds and no music) and the score (in AIFF files) of the game.

Can I have any luck with that?
