Thought I'd post my results trying out the Windows 98 version of VDMSound on my system.
Here are my system's specs:
* Motherboard
ASUS P2-99 AGP Motherboard
* Processor type and speed
Pentium III (500 MHz if I remember correctly)
* Amount and type of RAM
64 MB
* Video board w/ RAM amount and type
ATI ALL-In-Wonder 128 AGP
* Sound board
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
* Operating system
Windows ME
I installed as per instructions and everything seemed to go okay, except I ran the vcredist program (twice) and it didn't seem to do or say anything. Couldn't even tell that it had run.
I tried a program where I had sent commands to an OPL2 chip in C. Couldn't hear anything using VDMSound. I started DOSBox to see if any old DOS sound programs would run. I immediately got a humming sound out of my speaker and everything locked up.
Hope there'll be future versions for Windows 9X/ME systems and I hope someone eventually figures out how to get legacy sound working well through the Santa Cruz. I tried the legacy sound program that comes with the Santa Cruz card and the notes keep turning on and off while trying to play. (Same effect in DOSBOx without Santa Cruz legacy sound support program running by the way.) (Don't suppose anyone has any info on programming the Santa Cruz card in C/C++?)
Thanks.
