Some questions in the forum about replacing the splash screen got me thinking, and I'd like to ask if the following is OK with the devs:

In order to preserve DOSBox's "identity" but, at the same time, make clear that my project uses a custom build, would it be OK to replace the existing splash screen with one that has a black background instead of the existing background, as in the attached image?

I finally figured out how to get this image into the source code, but I don't want to distribute the executable if that would violate the spirit of the devs' request that the splash screen be preserved. I think this idea preserves the spirit of that request, while simultaneously suggesting that the faults in my custom build weren't created by the devs.

Thanks for any opinions on this. If none of the devs object, I'll assume that means it's OK.

EDIT: I replaced the original image with one that has a slightly lighter gray in the box.

Well, it is open source and of course you can change it and distribute as you like (you only have to honor the gpl and make the source of your built available upon request).

And keeping the splash, only in black, seems good enough IMO. But I'm not a dev 😉

There's a difference between "what I can do if I want to" with open-source software and "what I can do if I want to get answers to questions and other help from the developers later on"...! Since no one said "Keep the exact splash screen," my guess is that no one will complain...
