Emerging from lurker-dom...

I've read a bunch on here about video card recco's, however, I'm having trouble deciding between:

G400 Max
Voodoo3
Elsa Erazor III
(these are what I possess already)

In addition,

TB Montego II PCI + XR385 for Win98 noise, and
Orchid GameWave32 ISA for DOS noise

Would run on a 2x AGP slot. Pro's/Cons of each? I will mostly be doing DOS games and running some Win98 games on it for grins. Maybe some GLide titles, if able. CPU is a K6-III 400MHz.

Already got a Voodoo3 PCI on my Socket 4 machine running a 233MMX via Powerleap adapter (Frankenstein) which I like, but wondering if I can do better than that with the increased CPU horsepower and AGP goodness.

Will pay $$$ for:

caching ISA I/O-IDE controller

Voodoo3 most definitely.

It would be highly bottlenecked by a Pentium MMX or even the fastest K6-III. These cards will scale well up to around 1 GHz P3. Of course that assumes a sane resolution of like 1024x768 and not 1600x1200.

The other cards are ok for D3D and OpenGL, but you really need to have Glide support.

This has been discussed to death already. Voodoo 3 has the best compatibility of those three and should run most DOS games as well.

An idea would be to pull that V3 PCI out of the other system and combine it with a faster AGP card, but that CPU frankly isn't so great for later Win9x games.

That's why some people were bringing up the idea of having some sort of wiki or FAQ thread for basic questions.

Fourthing the Voodoo3.

Paletted textures and table fog are guaranteed. Sure there's better cards, but of the 3 you have listed, Voodoo3 is KING.

Also the G400 jerks in Keen 4.
