So I've decided to create an Nlite-ed Windows 2000 install disc for my HP Athlon 64 box, and I want to know what services I can get away with disabling for increased performance while at the same time preserving support for network file sharing. The last time I tried doing this, I went a little too far and ended up with a nearly unusable setup where explorer.exe would refuse to start. 😜 I did get it to start after re-enabling a bunch of arbitrary services, but I can't remember which ones exactly.

On WinXP you can get away with Workstation, Server, and Network Connections, absolute bare minimum. But if you're only accessing shares then you don't need server. It's been a while since I did this on 2000, but I remember it being the same.

I'll have to give that a try. Thanks. 😁
