Probably the most beautiful thing I got for free.
This is a collection of Interplay games.
Here is a photo of it if any of you are familiar.
Re: Bought these games today
Courtesy of a user on this forum badmofo. (Thanks)

I'm trying to run the CD with the Multiple games on it (I WANT TO PLAY ULTIMA UNDERWORLD BADLY)

Here is my procedure (Win 7 32 bit runnind dosbox .74)

mount f f:/ -t cdrom
Mount c c:/
f:
dir
dossetup

I then chose wasteland out of the CD and it immediately said it was installed and to type in WL to play it but I checked the C drive and it was empty. I tried Ultima Underworld and it said it was installing for a while but then it wouldn't stop saying it was installing and I checked the C drive and no files were even put inside of it. The same thing happened with the Bards Tale as did with Ultima Underworld I.

I am wondering if there is another way I must do it or if the CD is damaged or compromised. Any guidance would be appreciated and I can apply more information below if requested (Take note I got Stonekeep to work under similiar procedure)

I used a USB as a "Hard drive" to run Stonekeep by mounting it and installing stonekeep to it and for these games I am attempting to use my actuall C drive.

Hmmm. 😒

You can get versions of each of those games you mentioned from gog.com in a form that will likely work without any problems.

So don't use your actual C drive. Programs typically do not have permission to write to C:\ , which is good, because a program from twenty years ago could cause some serious problems if let loose on a modern system.

Please read the 60 Seconds Guide.

Thanks, that may be the problem that I stopped using a USB because it broke. I will read the Guide, thank you.
I just don't like using things like GOG. I have this mindset against it. I know most DOS games are abandonware. I am much more comfortable with actual copies of games. I feel like I can work to get such things why do I need to download it for free.

Then you are mistaken. There is, technically, no such thing as abandonware. There are only games that no one will particularly care about when you copy them illegally.

Are you using an actual, physical game disc, then? It is not clear from your first post.

I do not understand. GOG.com provides legal downloads which they charge for, having obtained the rights from the legitimate copyright holders. (That's the theory, anyway.)

It is pretty clear I have actual copies and using CD.
(Also thank you for your help so far)

I also have a link for it, the picture is slightly down the page of the thread with a picture of the collection.
I used the guide and when I installed to a folder in my documents the folder where I installed wasteland is empty.

Okay then. (People don't usually get CDs for free; hence the confusion.) Moving on:

Can you describe the commands you are using now? Are you still mounting your CD drive as F? As per the guide, you should mount it as D regardless of what it actually is in Windows.

Lol it was a free stuff sale. People do that after yard sales.

Also I will use the D: this time and report the outcome.

This time I used.

mount c c:/users/tony/documents/dosbox

mount f f:/-t cdrom

f:

dossetup

Yup, turns out the D drive in my computer is for Recovery (off the shelf laptop) HP.
the Directory of D:/ is a bunch of stuff unrelated to the CD.

Note 1: It is highly recommended that you always use C and D for the emulated drives. It doesn't matter what your real drives are.

If your "DOSBox stuff\MyGame" folder is located on say your real F-drive, then do a mount C "F:\DOSBox stuff\MyGame"
If your real CD-ROM drive is E:, then do a mount D "E:\" -t cdrom

Therefore, instead of using "mount f f:/ -t cdrom" , use "mount d f:\ -t cdrom".

Ahhhh I see now. Thank you. Again I will be back with results.
In sadder news..I tried typing in "color a" to change the text to green and it did not work.

So the virtual drive is the D but the actual drive will be the F but Dosbox will read it as D. (in a sense)
So its my F drive being disguised as a D drive to....trick and be used properly by dosbox.

We made progress.
The CD drive is running. But it only downloads for a second and then it says its complete.
I check the folder and its empty. Maybe the problem is in the disk. Although I doubt it most files were last edited in 1997.

It turns out people have actually had this exact same problem with the Ultimate RPG Archives before. Some workarounds are detailed here:
Ultimate RPG Archives CD2 Installation Problem
Don't forget to clear the read-only attribute of any files you copy manually.

If you want to keep experimenting, maybe try mounting drive C with -freesize? (Details are in the DOSBox readme.)

It's also possible that it is trying to use XCOPY, which doesn't exist in DOSBox. See How to get games which install with XCOPY to work - GUIDE . In this case you would need to put XCOPY in c:\users\tony\documents\dosbox .

Thanks for the extra help I'll keep experimenting when I'm not trying to finish my windows 95. (If I can even find a copy of it). I''ll keep this thread updated on progress.

YAY

Manually copying files worked....and pretty simple to do among earlier commands

For people who need to solve this this is how it is done

mount c c:/Users/username/documents/foldername

mount D (CDROM name, probably D):/ -t cdrom

and then manually copy the files over to foldername.
for example mine was wasteland. So I went in the CD into the wasteland folder and opened the one called WL and copied it to to the WL in foldername.

(If you want me to re word this ask)

Thank you Jorpho.

THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO PLAY.
Go into the CD
Go into your game folder.
Take the file.
Copy it to wherever.
then drag it on to the DosBox Icon.
Then type the name of the file

Now I can't find a way to play the game purely using Dosbox...but this should do until I find it.

Here is an Example
I want to use the Bard's Tale Construction Set.
I'll go into the CD...Open Bardtale..and copy the BTSC folder to wherever I want it. Then when I want to use it I will drag the folder on to my Dosbox ICon and type in BTSC and now I am making a dungeon instead of taking out the trash. I will now try to find a way to fix the problems in installing this purely using DOSBOX
