I can't get the " sign to work in Qbasic running in Dosbox .074. I'm trying to teach intro to programming to a small group but can't even demo PRINT "Hello, world." I tried Ctrl-F1 to remap, but it says that the ' key works, and I can't seem to remap a double key (i.e. shift+').

Any ideas?

How do you do that?
I did use shift-f1 and it seemed to be right.
I have a laptop, but how do you select the specific keyboard layout?
Thanks!

Oh, sorry. I'm a US keyboard layout.
I'll take a look at the readme, hope it helps. Although, why would keys not work? Isn't that pretty basic for a program?

They should work but perhaps something is bugging your keyboard driver and SDL which is driving Dosbox. The readme has asectipn about notworkung keys, I think.

Okay, I read the readme, I tried keymapper (I can't even map the apostrophe because it doesn't even "see" the key), and I tried keyb.
I don't know what else to try, but you can't use Qbasic if you can't use the quotations.
Any other ideas? Any other ways that i could run Qbasic?

On what system is the Dosbox 0.74 running?

And what keyboard is that? USB or PS/2? And the make?

I'm running Vista on an ASUS G50V laptop, with an internal keyboard (not sure if USB or PS/2--I looked in Device Manager but couldn't find that info) that is a Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 keyboard.
The apostrophe/quotes is between the semi-colon/colon and the enter key (in a fairly standard location, I think).
Thanks for your help!

Hmmm..I can enter all the symbols on my ASUS G73 laptop. Though different models, both are from the G-series. Anyway, not sure what's the problem. Does the apostrophe symbol work with window's notepad?

Have you tried with older versions, other builds or tried downloading the dosbox package again?

I'm using the D-Fend Reloaded package. It's a vanilla dosbox package with the frontend attached with many frontend based enhancements and some additional tools.

MS ehome keyboard sounds familiar. There is a bug with that keyboard driver and SDL I think. Can anyone point to the thread?
