I found this old notebook. Celeron-M 410 (Yonah, 1.46 GHz/533 FSB/1 MB cache, socket M) etc... Chipset is ATi Mobility Radeon Xpress 200M.
Can't find the supported CPUs list...
Theoretically Socket M can support (except Celeron 400 series):
Pentium Dual Core Mobile T2060/2080/2130 - Yonah, 2 cores, 1 MB cache, 533 MHz FSB.
Core Solo T1250/1350 - Yonah, 1, 2 MB, 533 MHz.
Core Solo T1200/1300/1400/1500 - Yonah, 1, 2 MB, 667 MHz.
Core Duo T2050/2250/2350/2450 - Yonah. 2, 2 MB, 533 MHz.
Core Duo T2300/2400/2500/2600 - Yonah. 2, 2 MB, 667 MHz.
Celeron-M 520/530 - Merom, 1, 1 MB, 533 MHz.
Core 2 Duo Mobile T5200/5300 - Merom, 2, 2 MB, 533 MHz.
Core 2 Duo Mobile T5500/5600 - Merom, 2, 2 MB, 667 MHz.
Core 2 Duo Mobile T7200/7400/7600/7600G - Merom, 2, 4 MB, 667 MHz.
It lools like there are 3 questions. Is there 1) multicore support, 2) 667 FSB support, 3) Merom support in this ATi chipset/notebook motherboard?
Has anyone tested this notebook with any CPU from the above list?
Tnx.

CPU-Z info about motherboard - Acer Garda5.
To be more precise - Wistrone Garda5-1-0426.
Northbridge - ATI RC410ME (216ECP4ALA13FG PQ2458.00 060755P Taiwan)
Southbridge - ATI SB480 (218S4RBSA12G DK7241.00 0612SSP Taiwan)
Still - can't find an info about supported CPUs... 🙁

I would guess you should at least be able to try other Yonah CPUs. The heatsink/cooling solution may not be beefy enough for other CPUs than your Celeron however.

Have you tried looking at Garda-5 schematics for clues? 😀

To test others Yonah CPU - I need to buy this "other CPU".
Time consuming (2-3 weeks to delivery from EU, US or China).
Plus I'm too greedy for buying a CPU, then find about incompatibility of this CPU with the motherboard. 😀
And I need at least 3 CPUs to test - 1 dual core 553 MHz Yonah, 1 Core Solo with 667 MHz FSB and 1 Merom. Then - 4th CPU with all supported upgrades...

P.S. There is 133/166 MHz AGTL+ on this schematics. So, theoretically Garda5 will work with 667 MHz FSB CPUs...

Someone at a BIOS patching website might be able to tell you more about what CPUs are supported by looking at your BIOS.

Have replaced Celeron-M 410 to Core Duo T2450 (Yonah, 2 cores, 533 MHz FSB, 2 MB cache, 2 GHz). This CPU was recognized by the notebook.
So - 1) Yes, there is the multicore support in Travelmate 2440.

Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).

Travelmate 2440 isn't working correctrly with Core Duo T2450 and DDR2-667 (5-5-5-15)... Strange. Maybe CL5 isn't good enough?
Have installed two DDR2-533 (4-4-4-12) modules, all errors are gone.

It looks like the reason for glitches was not the memory. It was the CMOS battery (standard CR-2032). Now this Core Duo T2450 is working like a charm...
Still can't find a 667 MHz FSB Core Duo to test...

Should have gotten at least a T7200 as they rock and have 64bit support but core duo uses a little less power thus cooler. Anything faster than a t7200 is costly and often rare except only on eBay. The chipset isn't bad and had for the time decent performance but keep it cool or eventually it can brick.

If you live in or near a city you can visit shops that do a repair work to see if they sell scrap laptops as that is often a cheap way to get upgrades. T7200 is the one to look for but a t2400 on up is good enough for 32bit. T5500/5600 is ok but kinda slow and only 10% faster than a core duo at the same clocks. Got heaps of these chips and machines to use them so I learned just how well they fair. Win 7 works pretty good provided that there is at least 2gb ram.
