I have a thread about my video question for this system but I felt this question was significantly different enough to warrant a new thread. I recently acquired a performa 6110cd that stock that i've been upgrading the heck out of but it seems to have a few quirks

1) since I received this unit I ALWAYS have to power it on then off then on again to get it to display/boot. The unit has been completely consistent in this. If i power it on the machine powers up but the display never initializes no matter how long I give up. if i power off and immediately power back on it takes a minute but then the screen kicks in and system boots. I have no clue why this is.

2) I recently upgraded the hard drive from a 350mb with system 7.5 to a 1gb hdd with system 8.1 but every time I power off I have to "rebless" the OS. The new hard drive is a clean install it was PC formatted prior to me initializing and installing a clean os 8.1 install. so what happens is I get a smiling mac then my system immediately restarts and then I get a floppy with a "?". I can then boot from the os 8 CD and get into the hdd. i open the system file and "bless" everything and all is good. If i simply restart the system from in the OS it boots back up fine from the hdd but the second I power off and then power it back up the process repeat's and i have to "rebless" the system.

3) I cant seem to upgrade the CD ROM drive. I've tried 2 SONY x12 drives (the original is a x2) and they seem good enough to boot the OS but once i'm in the OS it stops seeing my CD drive. if I put in a game is spins up but nothing happens. Do I have to have a apple branded CD drive?

Have you replaced the PRAM battery? I had a Performa 6100 that did exactly the same thing when its PRAM battery was low or dead.

i have not, i have very little mac experience next to pc experience. I'll have to order one and see if that solves the issue. thanks!

while i'm asking questions can anyone confirm if having more then the official limit of 64+8mb of RAM can cause instability of overheating?
