Could you help me to run oregon trail II in dosbox. I am able to install it when I try and run it , it either does not load or freezes. I have tried both the 16 and 32 bit versions to no avail. I even tried installing the win32s for win 3.1.This seems to be where some of the errors are coming from, as they all reference windows 32. I am running it of of an iso I created from my copy of the disk. I am running dosbox 0.74 with et_40000 graphics and sound blaster 16. I have quicktime installed. If other information is needed I can provide it.

I might try that. I has not been giving me any missing file errors though. Just freezing up, giving me a cannot create hardware surface error in dosbox, or going to the command prompt with the directory of the game popping up. Meaning I click on the program and windows closes and the command prompt comes up with
C:/mecc/otII.

It is not currently available, and I will try that when I can, but I am almost sure that is not it because the installer installs the game fine by running setup .exe and all of the files are there. It just won't run and the main window for the game that should normally pop up does not.

Imaging problems can manifest differently, not just on installing. Let us know when you have tested the original. Can you link to the youtube video?

Ok. Maybe that is it. I also tried mounting the iso with -t cdrom instead of -t iso but that made no difference. If nothing else works I will use the cd when I can get to it. It is just weird. The problem does not seem related to the cd, as I am not getting any error messages related to not being able to read cdrom. I know that iso files do work in dosbox, as I have played another game in win 3.1off of an iso and it worked.

New update. Just tried running the 32 bit version in my windows 7 by extracting the files from the iso. SO the program itself works. The problems is i would like to run it in windows 3.1 in dosbox for the nice movies from quicktime. By mounting the folder with the extracted files from the iso, I get a new error. I run the program and the dosbox window gets bigger. Then I get a failed to create hardware surface message.

and the s3 provides that

Edit: the reason, I'm so insisting on the real CD is because iso is a "lossy" image format when there are different tracks on a CD. A mixed mode CD with data and audio tracks will only have the data imaged. And when a game expects audio tracks and there are none the error messages might be not precisely pointing at the right thing.

Also, please concentrate on the 16bit game, before trying the 32bit one.

New development. So for some reason the game does not like loading files from the d:/ drive, whether it is mounted from a folder or an iso. But if I extract the iso file to a folder and put that on my windows 3.1 drive and run the 16 or 32 bit version, I get a black screen that will sometimes(If i press ctrl alt del and choose to exit the program) load to the game. The music is there but cuts out. I will try and send the iso if I can. Thanks for all your help.

I had no difficulty installing and running the game in DOSBox 0.74 with default settings. The video driver I used in Windows 3.11 is the S3 driver linked in the Win3 guide, 640x480, 256 colors, small fonts. The installer offered to install QT, but I declined because QT 2.1.2 is already installed.

The attachment ot2.png is no longer available

If you're using an image, keep in mind that DOSBox only directly supports ISO and BIN/CUE format images with its IMGMOUNT command. Any other kind of image format will have to be mounted in a virtual cdrom such as Alcohol or Daemon Tools. ISO format is sufficient for this game because it has one data track and no audio tracks.

So things to try:
S3 graphics card emulation + drivers
Uninstall Quicktime and them install Quicktime 2.1.2 from my guide, don't let Oregon instal another quicktime. Especially keep to the 16bit version to avoid a potential Quicktime version that is incompatible (just guessing don't know what's on the CD)
