I loved the Bard's Tale series, and never had any problem getting them to run on my computer except for the Bard's Tale Construction set "mini-game". Over the years, I have tried running it on a 286, 386, 486, Pentium 60 and Pentium 200. (I haven't tried it yet on my new 1.4 gig pentium.) No matter what I do, it is always too slow. (When you kick down a door to enter a building it would pause for about 2 seconds, before entering the building. It didn't matter what computer you were using, it would always pause for about 2 seconds.) On Bard's Tale 1 - 3 I used to find two buildings with doors facing each other, and then kick down the doors repeatedly in order to get into multiple fights to raise my experience. With the Construction Set, it just isn't worth it. It takes too long.
I think the programming must be based on an actually count of 2 seconds, rather than on the clock speed of my computer. (I never used slowing programs for this game, and it was still slow even on a Pentium 200.)
Hopefully someone has a work-around, or bug fix for this???
Thanks, Sean.
