Hi,

I've had DosBox loaded on my old laptop, running XP, for many years, and it's worked flawlessy for what I want. However, I'm in the process of switching to Windows 7. I've downloaded the latest version of Dosbox, 0.74. I know that to run the game I want to run, Panzer General, I need to make changes to the Autoexec.bat file. My problem is I can't figure out how to edit the Autoexec.bat file. I've read the Readme files and see a reference to editing the config file, but I can't figure out how to do this. And I haven't done anything in MSDOS in waaaaay to loooong...

I've been searching in the forums to try to find details on exactly how to do this, but so far haven't found it. Does anyone know if an explanation on how to do this is in the forums somewhere, and if so where? And if it's not, does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance!!

What sort of changes do you want to make? They may not be necessary in DOSBox.

Hi,

The file on my XP system has the following in it:

Set Blaster=A220 I7 D1 H5 T6
Set ULTRASND=240,3,3,5,5
Set ULTRADIR=C:\ULTRASND
mount c d:\
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl

I know the last command is needed - when the game starts, it looks for a DLL that's on the CD, and without this command it doesn't find it.

DosFreak, you mention a "start" menu - what are you referring to? I don't see anything like this anywhere.

When DOSBOX starts, I see the following: "loading primary settings from config file c:\users\bfogler\appdata\local\dosbox\dosbox-0.74.conf". I assume this is the config file that has the "autoexec" section in it that I could edit. However, I do not see an "appdata" folder under c:\users\bfogler... can anyone identify where this config file is on a Windows 7 system?

OK... I did a search on the c: drive for the "dosbox-0.74.conf" file, and was able to find it, and edit it. The settings seem to be fine, and the game I want to run now works fine under Windows 7, which is what I wanted.

However, I'm still interested in the comment about that start menu. I realize now that this is probably referring to the system "start menu icon" in the lower left corner of the screen - but I still don't see anything I recognize as a shortcut that gets me to the config file. The bosbox icon appears, and if I click on that, it starts dosbox. Am I missing something? Is there supposed to be something else there that allows for editing the config file??

Thanks! The Visual Aid was just what I needed!! As I said in my earlier post, I have been able to access the config file and make the edits I needed so that the game would run. But I am very glad to know about this as well!! Thanks for sharing!!
