Hi all,

I've been trying out a few different VGA cards for my DOS P133 build. So far I've tried a Matrox Millennium, a Matrox Mystique, a S3 Virge DX and an S3 Trio64V+ card.

Although I like the S3s for nostalgic reasons I like the image the Matrox cards give me. However occasionally I come across DOS games which do not recognize either Matrox card as being a VGA or SVGA card. Notably Pirates Gold, in which the screen just goes blank when I run it with a Matrox card.

Is there a DOS / VESA driver I can use for situations like this with a Matrox card?

Thanks

Steve

Hey Vetz, thanks for the prompt reply. I should have mentioned that before - I did try UniVBE
Since I posted I've done some more research and there is a switch which bypasses the vesa detection for Pirates Gold. So I could just go with that.

Thanks for the input.

Kind regards,
S

For anyone having trouble with Matrox cards and Pirates Gold the solution is:
1. Run UniVBE
2. Start game by "piratesg V1"

It will skip Vesa detection and force game to run with Vesa driver.
