Hi there.

I have an old Dell Optiplex GXi which has a similar problem as in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzOVlrv8CbQ

The drive works perfectly without the top hood off, but the front panel/fascia mechanism for the button doesn't, the button doesn't spring out when inserting a floppy.

Maybe someone here has experience with fixing this?

I had the exact same problem.

I have two OptiPlex GX1 computers, tower and desktop.
The tower one has an screw and metal plate on the eject mechanism that is on the floppy eject button, while the desktop one only has melted plastic that got loose and broke off.
I tried to fix it with rubber bands, and it worked for some time, but than the bands stretched and it all went to shit again 😀
The way i fixed it is that i used an LAN cable wire and bended it over the plastic and behind the metal slidey thing:

Now it works flawlessly for over an year or so.
