Trying to play Alternate Reality: The City using Dosbox 0.74. The .bat file starts, asks which graphics I want and if I have a joystick. Game shows credit screen then hangs with the error "graphics data not found". I altered the config file from svga_3 to ega as the two choices at start up were cga and ega and I read in some help files that svga isn't always 100% back compatible but no luck. Am I missing something in the download of my game? Is there something I need to download with dosbox? Anyone encounter this? I've done a bunch of searches but can't find anything on this so it must be something really simply that I've missed. I'm running Windows 7 professional.

Ok Folks - found the answer myself. I downloaded the game from another site and the issue was simply the file structure. The first zip file had a poor structure in that the EGA folder was missing and all the EGA files were mixed with the top files. Hope this helps someone else.

This is a nice topic to link to on why "abandonware" (aka illegal copies of software maintained by pretentious 'curators') isn't supported.
