Hey guys,

I'm having this weird problem with old sierra games in DOSBox 0.74.
I decided to start up sq1 a few days ago, played some and then tried to save (you know, hit F5 etc.) but instead of getting the screen where you can choose what slot to save in, it immediately picks the first slot. So, thinking it's a bad crack or something I downloaded some other versions but they all have the same problem. Then, to check if it's maybe a DOSBox problem, I tried sq2 and pq1. Same problem!! Then I tried lsl1. Here it gets interesting (in a bad way). Right after the message that prompts you to pass the copy protection it immediately skips to the message that I haven't answered the questions correctly, so it's like DOSBox automatically presses ENTER (just like with the choosing of the save slot)
Now I've been playing these games for years in DOSBox and never had this problem, so I uninstalled and reinstalled DOSBox, to no avail.
I did notice some strange things:
First: I couldn't delete the DOSBox folder after uninstall, so I ran unlocker which said conime.exe was blocking it
Second: After reinstalling I noticed my mount lines in the config file were still there! Whatever I do (uninstalling, manually deleting all related files, restarting pc, even checking the registry) these lines keep appearing whenever I reinstall
Also I'm using Vista (yeah I know)

Any help
Thanks

I knew someone was going to say this 😀
I bought all these games, some even when they first came out (still have some floppies, my mom threw some others out a long time ago, still haven't forgiven her). Problem is my dvd drive is busted so I can't install my sq collection cd (which I bought at a sale at my local library for like 10 cents or something). I even took it to work and mailed all the 37 files from sq1 to myself to try these, same problem!!! Also I'm fairly sure you can use the downloaded ones if you own a legal copy. My question still stands, I think this is an interesting problem that I'd like to solve. I've never run into a DOSBox problem that I haven't solved. This is my very first time posting on a forum (ever) because I'm stumped. I've been messing around with it for 4 days now. So I know you're going to be happy I bought sq1 for like 30$ in the 80s and paid an extra 10 cents for the whole collection in the 00s

No, it is still illegal to download them. An illegal download is still illegal. Additionally, you can still legally buy these games from GOG.

The other point is that there is no way to predict what the modifications (hacked, cracked, ripped, etc.) that most warez has will have on its behavior. Often, people have asked here for help with a game that no one else was able to replicate, only to find out later that the problem only occurred with the warez version and not with a legal copy.

"Abandonware" is not supported here.
