App closes when writing to USB drive: WIN8

Hi,
I've got an app that uses DOSBOX. When I print to a file using a USB drive location (in this case J:\) the DOSBOX simply closes and nothing happens.
When I print to a file using the C:\ drive (internal PC drive) it works fine.

Any thoughts why this may be occurring on my Dell 8700-WIN8 PC is greatly appreciated.

DosBox isn't designed for non-gaming applications.
