Hey, does anyone know how to get decent emulated sound from sega genesis roms played on the PC using an emulator. The sound isn't usually the same or at on par quality compared to playing on an actual console. Is there a soundcard out there that used the same chip as the Sega megadrive console which could spit out the same quality sound? Thanks

There are many different variations of the Megadrive/Genesis, an a lot of them sound different from one another. Not surprisingly, an emulator that tries to do a simple emulation of the YM2612 and the PSG will likely not emulate all of the little quirks in the sound circuitry that each variant has.

There's an emulator called Genecyst, which is probably no longer updated, that allows you to customize each channel. Maybe you can get it to sound the way you want. It's only for DOS, though.

Genesis Plus GX sounds very good too. I believe it uses MAME for the sound emulation.

in the end i went for the actual system with the 50/60Hz switch and a mega everdrive x3 cart with all the roms stored on a microsd card. I also went with a rgb cable from retrogamingcables with CSYNC. it runs US titles like MUSHA like a bawse (with a flick of a switch) and sounds awesome 😉
