Could someone give me a few names of a soundblaster card that doesn't crash on build engine games when picking up certain items or echos? Thanks.

Damn. The D3D website said that only a few crash, well. Off to use the SB16 emulation drivers.
Try the Yamaha A301-G50 PCI sound card. Provided you have a SB-Link header on your motherboard. Most of the cards for sale on eBay don't come with the SB-Link cable so you can purchase one from here:

This is about as good as you're going to get when using a PCI sound card within dos. I'm talking about compatibility of course. The next best thing is the Diamond MX300 but that provides dos sound via emulation drivers only as opposed to the Yamaha providing an ISA like connection via the SB-Link connector.

Nah, my motherboard doesn't have a SB Link connection 😢
And I dont have the 30 bucks for that soundcard at the moment, I'll keep it in mind.
But the SB16 emulation drivers don't crash in DOS? So im good at the moment.
So what motherboard are you using exactly? What sound cards do you have available?

I really have no idea what Motherboard I have, the computer is a Dell Deminsion 8200 running Windows 98.
I'm using a Soundblaster Live!
And I have a Soundblaster Audigy available.
Does your board happen to look like this:
If so, it's a Dell 1T751. Never been able to get dos sound working properly using a Pentium 4 board myself.

No, I got sound working in DOS, it's just that in Windows mode so that I can play multiplayer with Kali crashes in Build engine games when picking up certain power ups.
