What is the ideal gamma for old CRTs? The sRGB standard defines it as 2.2, but it was made relatively late in 1996. Does the display adapter play a part in this, or is it only the monitor that matters?

Do not refrain from refusing to stop hindering yourself from the opposite of watching nothing other than that which is by no means porn.

sRGB was designed around the capabilities of the average CRT at the time. 2.2 looks good to me 😀

CRTs get progressively darker with use as the phosphors degrade.
