its a 16 bit, got it off Amazon. I got it mainly because it has 3 IDE plugs. 1 hdd, 1cd rom, 1 floppy. it should arrive in a few days. What do I do once I get the card? How would i boot from the hdd on the sound card? Thanks.

The sockets are most likely for the proprietary CD ROM drives that existed at the time (Sony, Mitsumi, Panasonic), i.e. NOT IDE compatible. The 34 pin one is for a Sony CD ROM, not a floppy controller.

I'm sorry, you most likely can't boot a hard drive from that card, even if it has an IDE controller. These controllers were for CD ROM only, and most likely not even IDE ones.

You need a dedicated ISA controller card, one that also has serial and parallel connectors.

Did you get the floppy drive working or are both of them broken? Even without an HD you can do a fair amount.

I had a Tandy that came with no HD and I installed DOS to a Floppy, also had a few booter games. Eventually I installed a MFM 20MB hard drive. When you boot from the DOS install floppy there is an option to install to another floppy.

Have fun but don't dump too much money into it, you might find something better later.

That looks suspiciously like an old Packard Bell sound card. 🤣

I think your inexperience just got you into trouble again. Ask around before you buy. 🤣

Generic indeed. I would've gone with something like this.

Am I crazy or are there no Yamaha chips on that Sound Blaster?

On that particular SB16, the OPL is integrated into the CT1747 chip (marked with "OPL").

2iv17x5.jpg I found this in the bios. I don't have lots of experience with really old PCs but maybe this means i can do something to specify the hdd on the sound card?

I don't know personally, hopefully some of the older members can help you out here. Personally I don't have any real PCs (PCjr hardly counts) older than 96 at the moment.

I hope I can get some cool games running on this machine! Namely Arena and Daggerfall. Two of my all time favorite games.

Yeah Arena is awesome, I played that like crazy in the 90's. Don't think I ever got really far though.

Yeah, when I first tryed arena I was thinking, "how in the holy hell do I get out of this dungeon", but now Im just like "ok, west...south...done!" But in those games I would play for hours and monsters would jump out and scare the shit out of me or make me yell.
