Well, not the same exact one sadly, but this is close as I can get! It doesn't have the original harddrive, so I plan to simply use a IDE to compact flash card adapter and use a 2GB CF card in there.

I'd like to restore this to be exactly the way it would come fresh from factory. I just am missing a minor piece of the puzzle... the Acer CPR floppy boot disk. I have the Acer CPR CD-ROM for these models. I can't find any information or what links I did find were fully dead for the original floppy image. I think it would be incredibly awesome to get where things would restore off the CD-ROM, to the way I remembered it back then. 😀 MS-DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.1 is what's all on there.

Thanks! Even if I can't get a hold of the boot floppy, I can technically pull the drivers and software off the Acer CPR CD-ROM... it just wouldn't be 100% original still with certain system configurations.

wish I could find the PC I had back in 1997 , sadly it was broken down years ago , with some parts given to other people, some parts thrown away (no I didn't have control over that)

That's pretty cool!

Hmm, I found some information on these things: https://books.google.com/books?id=3jNOHGmrpRk … 0floppy&f=false

Just no Acer CPR Floppy disk. 🤣 Our original tower had the 75MHz CPU. The one I got here has the 100MHz.

mine shipped with a p166. I got it with ME on it, does yours have the hard drive bay above the powersupply?

Yep, it sure does! That's how our original was too! 😀

Other parts mine shipped with: s3 trio64, labway isa opl3 audio, and 2x16mb 72pin simms. Funny story with this, my dad bought it in 96 or 97, built 3 Pentium 2/3 computers for the family in late 98/ early 99 and sold it to his best friend. far as i can tell his buddy put ME on it in 2000, upgraded to a p4 in late 2001 and it sat in his attic until i hauled it down this summer!

Our original tower just had 8MB of RAM in it, and the Cirrus Logic GPU. Some friend of dad's ended up putting Windows 98SE onto it back in maybe the same year range yours had ME put onto yours. Only could fit so much on the 800MB drive. 😵

that is so cool! Are you planning on restoring it to your pc's original specs or upgrading it?

Well, since the original one isn't around anymore, and I finally got this one, I probably won't try making this match the exact specs. 100MHz Pentium over a 75MHz Pentium is a nice benefit for some games, even the RAM increase. Only originality I plan to do is get Windows 3.1 back on this one.

I'll still hunt for the original Acer CPR floppy boot disk online, but until then, I'll install MS-DOS the old fashion way along with Windows 3.1, and grab the drivers and software off the Acer CPR disk. I have that to go by at least! 😎

I doubt the internet will have restore/system media of 90s OEM PCs.

Well it does for the Packards if you know where to look. 😜

My best advice is to look for an enthusiasts group.

Is this the right floppy for what you need?

The attachment AcerCPR.JPG is no longer available

I can try to WinImage it for you if you would like. Let me know or send me an email.

Ah yeah, that's the exact same disk I recall seeing back then before it got lost! 😀

Also, does anyone have any idea why the motherboard refuses to boot when anything's plugged into the IDE connectors? CD-ROM or CF to IDE adapter?

-Edit-

Hmm, actually, is this even IDE? They both appear to have one pin less than the standard IDE interface.

It is ata33. make sure thay the jumpers are set to master/slave as required, if i recall correctly the old cables/and or ide connectors do not support cable select.

Huh, well, Cable select wasn't used on any jumper, but I had to grab my other CF to IDE card that fits in my PCI slot, and I shared the same IDE cable and it works then. It didn't seem to like having a Master / Single on one port and a slave on the other. 😐
