Tonight, I dusted off my old Thrustmaster X-Fighter analog gameport joystick and decided to give it a try on my IBM NetVista 1ghz machine with a CT4380 SB Live! Value soundcard. Win98SE detects it just fine and it calibrates OK too, but X-Wing (DOS Collector's CD version) can't seem to see this stick. However, X-Wing works just fine with my digital MS SideWinder Precision Pro connected to the same port.
I'm guessing that this is some sort of issue with running an analog gameport joystick via a PCI adapter. I'm also assuming that the MS SideWinder Precision Pro works with X-Wing because the SideWinder software is using its DOS compatibility mode to translate the digital/PCI signals into a "language" that X-Wing can understand.
Is my logic correct? Am I correctly assuming that native DOS games won't be able to detect analog sticks that are connected via my PCI gameport, even when run under Win98SE?
Thanks for any knowledge and/or insight that you can share!
